How to identify pavement ants
About ⅛ inch, brown to blackish, often seen with the small mounds of excavated soil they push up between cracks in pavement, driveways, and foundation slabs. Indoors they trail along floors and baseboards.

Pavement ants nest under hard surfaces and foundations, then forage indoors for grease, sweets, and crumbs. They're a persistent nuisance in garages, basements, and ground-floor kitchens.
